This JOINT tolerance is used to check on satisfaction level of Joint constraint. For examples, if it is a universal joint: some of the constraints for node I, J are: UxI = UxJ, UyI = UyJ, UzI = UzJ, During the Newton-Raphson computation, these constraints are ‘exactly” satisfied. If || Ui — Uj || < || JOINT tolerance ||, as a result the solution converges. By default, the JOINT tolerance = 1.0e-7
