In Fluent I can issue a report for ‘total heat transfer rate’ on any surface, it does not have to be a wall. But in the monitor creation panel, this only appears under the ‘wall fluxes’, so if I compute it for a surface that is not a wall (e.g., an outlet), it will give a value of 0. How can I create the report quantity as an equivalent monitor?

Solution
ParticipantDepending on the models that are being used, the total heat transfer rate may include the convective flow of sensible or total enthalpy, diffusive flux of energy, etc. In most cases, to get the ‘total heat transfer rate’ flux report as a monitor, this will be equivalent to a ‘flow rate’ monitor of ‘enthalpy’. Please see attached video for setting up the same. Keywords: monitor, enthalpy
