CFX Pre fails to launch both under Workbench and in standalone mode. The error message is: “An error occurred initializing CFX-Pre: An error was encountered during communications. CFX-Pre exited unexpectedly.” This seems to affect only recent installations of the software. older installations (V19x) still work fine. How can I fix this?

FAQ
ParticipantIf CFX-Pre is refusing to load on every machine that you log on to, there is most likely an issue with the CFX configuration files that reside in your user profile. The most common source of this error is the .cfx folder that resides in your user profile. This folder stores the preferences for the all the releases of CFX that you have installed. The folder has a subdirectory for each CFX release. Occasionally, some of the configuration files that initialize certain releases CFX-Pre can become corrupted. This commonly affects the most recent releases. If you go to C:Usersusername (on Windows) and your Home drive (on Linux) and show hidden files, you will see the .cfx folder. To fix the error: 1. Shut down all ANSYS products, 2. Delete or rename the .cfx folder 3. Relaunch CFX Pre in standalone mode or from Workbench. (The fix should be immediate. A reboot is usually not required.)
